"Of ours" (to MrP)

Hi MrP. Many thanks for your last suggestions. You told me that you weren't sure about the following sentence:

"This second perspective consists in affirming that those values do not exist independently of us, since they are just projections of ours."

You suggested: "...since they are merely our projections".

I found the following sentence in a article: "...it is the view that moral values are not objective, are not part of the world as it is in itself (but are merely inventions or projections of ours)."

Do you think that "of ours" is not completely correct or does not sound ok?

Cheers,

Sextus

Philip, thanks for your answer. I thought that this kind of construction was grammatically correct, since I had seen it many times. What about "He's a friend of mine"?

(By the way, a minor remark: I forgot the "n" in "a article").

Although we hear this often, I far prefer 'he is one of my friends'...

Hello Phillip, hello Sextus

It wasn't so much the grammaticality as the combination of "just" + the terminal "of ours" that I wondered about. The end of the sentence seemed to require something weightier; and "merely" seemed to fit in better with the style.
