"Nor do I" and "Neither do I."

(1) Nor do I.
(2) Neither do I.

Is it really true that (1) is more stiff and formal?

Well, that's a matter of opinion. I suppose "Nor do I" sounds a bit more formal (or perhaps more educated ) to me, but I wouldn't call it stiff.
