What's the difference between "I have never thought that " and "It has never occur to me that...."?

It would probably be better to say " I never would have thought of that" or "I have never thought of that".
Which pretty well means the same as "it has never occured to me that...", or "it would never occur to me that".

There may be a difference. Thought is intentional. But occurence is not intentional.
