"merchandise" and "commodity"

Hello,

What is the difference between merchandise and commodity?

Is merchandise sold only in stores?

Thank you in advance,

Commodity = a raw material or agricultural product that can be bought and sold; also something that is usable in commerce. Merchandise = products for sale - it is not restricted to sale in stores.
