"lodging" or "dorm"

A little bit of a difference.

Dorm is short for dormitory which is a building or large room at a school of some kind where students live.

Lodging is 1. a dwelling 2. a place to live/sleep 3. a furnished room in someone's home for rent as in "room and board" (US) or "board and lodging" (UK)

Dormitary is a specific term for a building or room that houses college students. It belongs to the college. Lodging is a more general term. Types of lodging for college students include the dorms, apartments, or fraternity/sorority houses.

We may also say that a lodging is a temporary residence. It is more common to say lodgings.
