A little bit of a difference.

Dorm is short for dormitory which is a building or large room at a school of some kind where students live.

Lodging is 1. a dwelling 2. a place to live/sleep 3. a furnished room in someone's home for rent as in "room and board" (US) or "board and lodging" (UK)

It usually has a shared bathroom and shower on each floor. Usually two students will be assigned to a room, although some single rooms are available.
