"loan" what is its meaning in this sentence?

0As far as I am aware, the word 'loan' can basically only be a verb meaning 'to lend' or a noun that is lent. Every other meaning is just some specification of one of those two. Therefore, I would have to assume the 'loan' referenced here is simply the pistols mentioned (which are being borrowed).

0As far as I am aware, the word 'loan' can basically only be a verb meaning 'to lend' or a noun that is lent. Every other meaning is just some specification of one of those two. Therefore, I would have to assume the 'loan' referenced here is simply the pistols mentioned (which are being borrowed). It just seems like a funny worded sentence.0-
