"Is this not..?"

0 Hello everyone, 02br
02br
00I've seen "Is this not...?" several times but I don't know if it is right. Why is it in that way and not "Isn't this?" ?02br
00Do they mean the same? Can it be that the first one is in a formal way while the other one in an informal way?02br
02br
00Thanks in advance for your help! 0-

00Yes, they mean the same thing. "Is this not" would be the more formal/written version or it might be used for emphasis.0-

00For your information, the contraction for 01i00am I not?02i00 isn't 01i00amn't I?02i00(That would be too logical for the British.05000) It is01i00aren't I?02i02br
00Example: 01i00I'm late, aren't I?02i02br

10HI Pucca,02br
00yes, it's an informal (some people also say nonstandard) contraction. I've usually seen it as a contraction of the verb "to be" in negative forms (are not, is not), but my dictionaries say it's also used for the ver

00Is it okay to say "is not it?" because I don't remember I have seen it in that way.. I sometimes get doubtful about using that (So I use 'is it not') in my papers.. So, If we want to write it in a short/informal way "isn't it?", but If I want to write it in a formal/long way I will write "is it not?" but I cannot write "is not it
