Grammar

"in" and "for"; "for" and "on"

(1) "Damn, I haven't slept for three days" OR "Damn, I haven't slept in three days" - Which one would you suggest?

Different issue:

(2) "I am waiting for a friend" OR "I am waiting on a friend" - And here?

As for me - "Damn, I haven't slept for three days" seems somewhat better. In the 2nd example I choose "I am waiting for a friend" sentence. However, I've seen present perfect with "in" in one of Grisham books (Chamber) and "waiting on a friend" is taken directly from one of the Rolling Stones' songs.

What do you think?

(ps. I didn't quote Grisham of course, just used the grammar idea)

(ps2. Let me know if anything in the post sounds/looks strange as far as English is considered, even if it is not directly connected with the discussed issue. Thanks.)

I'm not so sure... The "for" version suggests that you regret you haven't had a 72 hour long sleep, in other words that you wish you could sleep for the whole length of time... You'd better wait till a native reads your post.
