"in vacation" OR "on vacation"
Hi,
I've just heard from someone that both "in vacation" and "on vacation" are correct & that their meanings are very close to each other. However, their usages are different.
1. "He's on vacation" means that he's enjoying his holiday.
2. "He's in vacation" just means that he's off from work.
So, it's not appropriate to write something like "I'm on vacation till..." in some pre-set auto-reply at office because it's a personal thing & you need not tell your colleagues that you're enjoying your holiday. Instead, we should write "I'm in vacation till..."
Could you let me know whether the above are correct?

Hi Kathy, I have never heard "in vacation" in my life. You can simply set your out-of-office message to say you are out of the office. You don't need to say on vacation or at a conference or having an operation or anything else, but your company may prefer that you differentiate between being out of the office on vacation/holiday and out of the office but still working (like at a conference).
