I don't think he ______ in the thirty years I _______ him.

A. changed / knew
B. had changed / knew
C. has changed / have known
D. changes / know

What of the above should I choose?

oh, I'm sorry. I choose A
but my teacher chose C

my teacher's answer: I don't think he has changed in the thirty years I have known him

that sounds weird to me so I'm not sure

I would chose A also, it just sounds natural to me....

C would be the most likely choice. "I" and "he" still know each other today. "He" and "I" have known each other from a point 30 years ago up to now, and since we met 30 years ago, he has not changed.

A could work if "he" is now dead, for example. In other words, I knew him for a period of 30 years, starting with the day we met and ending with the day he died. And du
