It's not as good as it should be

It's not as good as it could be

It's not as good as I'd like it to be

It's not as good as it ought to be

It's not as good as I would like it to be

Blah, Blah, Blah

I am so glad English is my first language.

But I was taught using "not SO good as ..." instead of "not AS good as ...." Any comment? Thanks.

Hi,

In negative comparisons, you can use as/as or so/as, eg

A is as big as B

A is not as big as b

A is not so big as B.

Ha, I should tell my high school English teacher about this usage; she insisted on deducing my test score becasue of my using "not as good as."
