"Gone is the image..." what's that meaning ?

"Gone is the image of a group of men playing cards while waiting for the bell to ring, so that they can jump into a red engine with a Dalmatian riding in te front."

What's exactly the 'Gone is the image...'?

Means a image that happened before ? or, it's an antique (at least old ) scene which hasn't showed up any more?
