"Glad I am" instead of "I'm glad"

Hey guys. This is my first message here and I just wanna tell that I'm glad to find these forums Emotion: smile

Well, I heard many times, watching movies or series in English, people say "glad I am" when I'm actually used to say "I'm glad".
So, my question is when are supposed to do this inversion ? In which case ?
An example : "Can't tell you how glad I am he had a friend here with him."
Thanks, see ya
