"get the bulletin out"

hi, i come across a sentence while reading a case about job stress: "We are supposed to meet every week, but something usually interrupts and we get cut short or can't meet. Of course, that often means calls in the evening so we can get the bulletin out." i don't understand the meaning of "get the bulletin out". the one who speaks is a church secretary. she is referring to the meeting with the pastor. but the "we" may include more than two persons.

thks!

The church bulletin, where I go to church, is like the program that is given out in worship, listing the hymns, the readings, the sermon title, etc. Since it absoultely must be completed before the service, the church secretary is often forced to work well into the evening to get the job completed, because other things got in the way of getting the information together that she needed to type up the bulletin. Thank you for providing the context - without it, I would never have been able to answer your question!

thks, but does it mean that the secretary can finish the bulletin because there are phone calls in the evening that interrupt the meeting? that the phone calls give her time to finish it?

No, it means that they are meant to meet during the day to discuss the bulletin, but don't get time. So then the poor secretary has to the evenings telephoning everyone he/she should have met, otherwise the bulletin would not get finished.

The bulletin in churches which I've attended also contains information about the dates and times of meetings and activities for various groups within the parish. It can also contain news of people and happenings associated with the parish.

So the secretary may have to telephone around to collect up-to-date information about these things. The bulletin is a sort of very small newspaper whic
