"for instance" & "for example"

I understand that both 'for instance' and 'for example' mean the same thing but do they differ in usuage?

Thank you.

Best wishes,

Hi PBF, I tend to use "for instance" to describe an action or activity, and not a thing. I use "for example" with any situation - action, noun, etc.
