"Faculties don't want to fuse"

0Wouldn't you agree that this sounds awful? This is a headline that appeared in the Leiden University newspaper. I would never use the word 'fuse' in this context; 'merge' sounds much more natural to me in this context. My classmate vehemently disagrees, though. She says it sounds perfectly natural to her ears, and much to my amazement the English-Dutch dictionary seems to agree with her. 0-

0"Awful" might be a bit strong, but I agree that "merge" is far preferable to "fuse." I don't find it natural, unless they are robots who are going to be "assimiliated" into each other.0-
