Grammar

"...entranced by the puppet show" Adj. or Verb

entranced adjective literary
If you are entranced by someone or something, you cannot stop watching them because they are very interesting or very beautiful
The children sat silent on the carpet, entranced by the puppet show

This is the entry for the word 'entranced' in my dictionary. I thought the word 'entranced' is a verb in that sentence. Am I right? I am not doubting the dictionary but could you explain to me why 'entranced' is an adjective instead of a verb in here, please?

Thank you

Best wishes,

Thank you for your reply, Philip, but how about 'The children were entranced by the puppet show', is 'entranced' in its passive form in this sentence as in 'asked' in 'she was asked if Helen was still in America' ?

Thank you again.
