"does" or "did"

If your choice is between 'does' and 'did', choose 'does'.

But if 'would do' is among your options, that would be better.

It is a very peculiar sentence, though. Do you mind if I ask which book it comes from?

I was simply referring to the choice of example...

i'm stuck with this exercise:
Choose the correct form of the verb "do":
He studies as a parrot (do)
In my opinion, I choose "does".But my friend is sure that "did" is the correct answer. His reason is that the parrot can't study so we must use a past participle here.
I'm now confuse. Which one is correct? please help!

He studies as a parrot does.

The closest google I can find is this:

'Malaysian students should learn not to study like a parrot.'

Which is remarkably good advice, since (as your friend says) parrots don't study at all.

On the other hand, as JTT suggests, parrots study objects quite thoroughly; so that might be an admirable quality,

The picture of an inquisitive parrot has charm. But I suppose we would have to disallow it, as the verb here is intransitive.
