No, 'are you mind?' doesn't make sense and isn't used..

'Do you mind?' is correct and perfectly polite.

A slightly more tentative (and so more polite) version is 'Would you mind...?'

Hello Sea Wolf, welcome to English Forums!

"Do you mind?" is a relatively common phrase; it can express politeness, as in #1, or pseudo-polite irritation, as in #2:

1. Do you mind if I open this window?

2. Do you mind asking before you open the window in future?

"Are you mind?" doesn't exist as a phrase, in ordinary English. Where did you see it?

Thanks for the replies....

I saw this sentence "Are you mind if I take tomorrow off? in a Chinese english forums.

As this sentence is asking for take off, so I wonder "Are you mind" may be more politeness.

Thanks again for yours help!

Hi SeaWolf,
"are" instead of "do" is a common non-native mistake that seems to be made mainly by Asians (I don't know why). Common sentences are "Where are you live" or "Are you study or work". No native speaker talks that way, you have to say "Where do you live" and "Do you study or work?"

YankeeIf you read further in this interview, you'll find out that the famed Ilyana is from the Ukraine.

(You know, I think that might well be the Ilyana who has an interest in "natural swimming" and keeps sending me visa-related spam.)
