"Cheers!"

I have another American-English/British-English question:
In British English we use "cheers!" to mean "Good health!" (when raising our glasses) or "thanks!" or "bye!". Can "cheers!" be used in precisely the same way in American English?
Thanks (again!) in advance!

No. Doing that will get people looking at you as if you had two heads! As mentioned above only the 'raising our glasses' situation works in AmE. For "Thanks" or "Bye" the use of "Cheers" will be universally misunderstood.
