"Belie"

Despite vigorous protestations, the grin on the teenager’s face____ her denial that she had known about the practical joke before it was played on her parents.
A. belied
B. illustrated
C. reinforced
D. exacerbated
E. trivialized

I thought the answer would be B, but I checked the transcript, and it turns out to be A. Could you explain for me?
And if the answer is A, doesn't it tell that "belie" means "reveal"? But actually "belie" means "to conceal".

Thank you.

Thank you, Clive. I got it.
But what if “denial” is replaced by “lying”? Despite protestation, the grin on her face revealed the lying that …. Is “belied” still suitable here?

Hi,

I think a grin can belie a denial, because it is kind of 'contradictory' to it. We don't usually grin when we deny something serious.

But it's not so obvious that a grin is contradictory to a lie. We often grin when we lie. I'd say something like her grin betrayed (ie showed) her lie.
