"because of who" OR "because of whome" ?

Hello,

I read a sentnce in a book "... because of who i found out the truth ..." is that true or should it have been WHOM?

I'd reply to this question with "because of hiM", so my choice is "whoM".

If it's not a question but a subordinate clause "...the guy, because of whom...", nothing changes. Him—Whom.
