Vocabulary

"bad"

BAD is the song's name played by Michael Jackson.

"Because I'm bad, I'm bad, I'm really really bad"

What does "bad" mean here??

The first version of its Chinese translation says it's "the best", the later versions are just transliteration.

No, Michael Jackson was a weird guy, and 80's in America were a weird time, and it's rather hard to explain why being "bad" was good, but it has no sense of sadness, depression or discouragement. I am not going to be able to describe it properly, but it's more like "I'm so cool" in the sense of "cool" being popular.

Hi,

You might want to be a little cautious about trying to learn English through Chinese translations of songs by Michael Jackson.

Best wishes, Clive

Is this an example of Ebonics?

No, it was just a piece of 80s slang. I guess the 90s version was 'wicked'.

"Cool" or "wicked" is the approximate interpretation, and it is being "great" to some degree according to their logic I guess.Emotion: big smile
