Hi, can we have a period after the name "Abraham Lincoln" instead of a comma?

Here is my quotation:

"I have now come to the conclusion never again to think of marrying, and for this reason," explained Abraham Lincoln, "I can never be satisfied with anyone who would be blockhead enough to have me."
