Quotation marks.

hi.

" The painting was very realistic that i had an .................................................................

............................................................................................................

......................................................... It was a brilliant work.

" I fixed the painting......................................................................................................

.......................................................................................................................................

........................... it was perfect"

I came across paragraphs like this. Why don't we put a closing quotation mark at the ending of the first paragraph ?

When the passage quoted contains more than one paragraph, only the last paragraph gets the closing quotation mark. Each of the preceding paragraphs gets only the opening quotation mark. That's just the way it's done.
