Quotation from TIME FOR KIDS
Dear teachers,
It would be helpful if you could teach me the meaning of the following sentence.
This is a quotation from 'TIME FOR KIDS'.

The point I can't understand is the red colored part.
'Veerman says that it might make sense for doctors to start asking their patients about
how much time they spend in front of the TV, and to treat TV time as they would
other risk factors for poor health, such as lack of exercise and an unhealthy diet.'
Can I paraphrase like this?
'Veerman says that it might make sense for doctors to start asking their patients about
how much time they spend in front of the TV, and to treat TV time like they would treat(deal with?)
other risk factors for poor health, such as lack of exercise and an unhealthy diet.'
