"a"

Hi,

Which is correct of the following two?

- I'd taken a two-week gap.

- I'd taken a two weeks gap.

Please give me the reason too because I personally feel the first one should be correct due to the usage of the article "a"..

Thanks.

Oh, so it's because 'two-week' has been used as an adjective and not because of the article "a" prefixing it. One more doubt. Why is it said "one and a half day" why not "one and a half days", as "one and a half" is more than one; so should it not be using a plural?

The correct grammar in the noun form is the plural, eg 'The trip lasted for one and a half days'.
