"and"

Hi teachers,

I was taught to use "and" when I needed to connect a serious of things. I don't understand the following sentences.

Why is "and" not used in these sentences?
(1)You could hear women lamenting, children crying, men shouting.
(2) Some were calling for parents, others for children or spouses.
