Quite Good and highly recommended ...

Hey There !!!
I was shocked by knowing that ( Quite Good ) means not very good ! Coz I Always thought that any thing with Quite will emphase on completely ! so is it True ? that Quite Good means not very good !? and I wanna know what they mean By highly recommended !

That's shocking to me too. If you said "Quite Good" in america it would indeed mean "very good."

It doesn't necessarily mean that something is bad. It is more to be polite when you don't want to really compliment something or when you feel fairly neutral.

First I've heard that, Nona-- I'll have to assess the comments of my British friends differently from now on.

When I don't want to really compliment something or when I feel fairly neutral, I usually say, 'Interesting'.

This is only the case when 'quite' is paired with 'good'. If it is used with most other words like 'excellent, wonderful, delicious etc etc it is a genuinely means 'absolutely'.

'Quite nice' is another one to be wary of. Depending on the verbal emphasis it could also mean that you have some reservations about something.

I have no idea why.
