Quite a few and Quite few

Hello.

I'm confused about the usage of "quite few".
I thought I learn that "quite few" is used to describe great number of sth.
Is it wrong?
"Quite a few" means that too, isn't it?

I would be delighted if someone could help me.

quite a few = a fairly large number quite few = a fairly small number I know that sounds crazy, but it's true nonetheless. 'Quite a few' is the more common expression. Because of the potential for confusion, I would avoid 'quite few' and say something like 'not very many' instead.
