Quite a difficult taks

Hi,

I'm confused about which of the following are/is correct:

1.That was quite a difficult task.

2.That was a quite difficult task.

3.That was quite difficult a task.

If I were to compare these sentences to "that is too small a house" the the third option should be correct.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, you would be wrong, then. 'Quite' does not work like 'too'...or 'very', either.
#1 and #2 are the right ones.
