Grammar

Quicker/more quickly

The quicker/more quickly you finish your homework, the sooner you can go out.

IMHO both forms are grammatically. Am I right?

Thanks!

Thank you. The problem is that in the key there is only one correct answere. Guess which? Emotion: smile

Which form is more commonly used

I imagine that the 'correct' answer is given as 'more quickly'. There are some who still insist that most adjectives must use 'more' for a comparative form.

"quick" is (conventionally) an adjective.
"quickly" is the adverb.

Thus, the grammatically "correct" form would be the comparative adverb, more quickly.

However, native speakers would go for the shorter "quicker" because the "sound" of the adverb phrase is matched to "sooner."
