Quick question - is this sentence correct?

Hi, I'm wondering if the usage of the word "the" in the below sentence is correct or not? It sounds awkward a bit, but I'm not sure - could you explain - thanks

Tom the cat has three friends, Rosy the squirrel, Mikey the mouse and Jane the goat.

The use of "the" is OK. This is a pattern we can use to name someone and also describe who/what they are, a bit like "John the milkman" or "Patricia the pineapple-seller". The first comma should properly be a colon, but perhaps this may seem too formal for the context.

  • Even so, the punctuation feels off to me.
