Being in the military made me aware of a very serious problem our society is faced with daily. Driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol or drugs, is not only dangerous to you but to any one else on the road. This crime can affect your life in ways the average person does not realize. An outrageous amount of time and money will be allocated on just finding out if the accusations are true by the court.
Having a DUI conviction in your permanent record is unacceptable to some people. This information is open to the public, and anyone interested in your life will have access to it. So, think about applying for a new job; assuming you got fired from your old job, due to your unavailability to drive and make it to work on time now that your license is suspended due to your DUI conviction. Your new employer has access to the DUI information, taking it into consideration in the hiring process. Would he hire an irresponsible person with a DUI conviction in their record? Or would he hire the person with a clean record? This makes searching for a job a bit more difficult.
One of the worst long-term effects of a DUI conviction is the impact it occurs on your time. Many people would agree that “time is money.” Therefore, a DUI conviction will cause plenty of it. This could mean jail time in a county jail or a state prison. Lengthy alcohol rehabilitation classes in the evenings, after you have spent an entire day searching for work; or on the weekends that are usually spent having fun. Leaving almost zero time for a personal life. A DUI can really injure your family life, by leaving little time for romantic relationships, and creating new problems in existing relationships with friends or family. If married with children, the time and expense can cost more than your family is able to pay, creating additional problems in your marriage and possibly hurting your children’s financial future.
A DUI conviction is extremely expensive. On average a DUI is an instant bill of around $45,000 dollars from your pocket. So, let’s do the math. Once you get pulled over and found guilty of DUI, your car will be towed and taken away for a minimum of five days, with an estimated amount of $700 dollars. The next step is, the need of an attorney to represent us in court and try to lower our fines. Lawyer fees for this type of cases usually start with an estimate of $4,000 dollars. After court and conviction, you will be required to attend DUI classes, and payment for classes are required with an estimate of $650 dollars total. The cost of annual auto insurance for the next 13 years will also increase by an average of $40,000 dollars. It is an unnecessary act to drive under the influence. DUI could result in paying the ultimate price. It could end with the death of others or your own.EndFragment>
