Quick conversation?

Me: Sir, do I have to write the memo all myself or there is a sample memo that I can edit?

Sir: I am not sure. You’d have to ask James.

Is this conversation correct? This is how my senior coworker replied to me when I asked him.

Me: Sir, do I have to write the memo all myself (I'd say from scratch ) or there is is there a sample memo that I can edit? Sir: I am (or I'm ) not sure. You’d (OK, but I'd use You'll here) have to ask James.
