Questions to sentence.

In his room there was a couch to sleep on and a table with some empty pizza trays on it.

1) Can I write "a couch to sleep on" to mean that it's where he sleeps?

2) Is there a way I can rephrase "a table with some empty pizza trays on it" to the better?
