Questions simple past

My students wrote a test with an exercise asking them to form questions in the simple past.

For some reason the following ones do not sound as 'wrong ' as other questions without 'did':

"What had the team in their car?"

"How came the team to the match?"

Is it possible to use these forms?

Top answer
