Questions on tenses

Hi. Please help me with these.

1. Would you say what comes after the words like "discovered," "founded," and "realized," any tense, including present, is possible (although I think a past tense could be what we use more than any other tenses - could be wrong, though.)

eg,

He discovered that it will not work.

He discovered that John is the strongest. (correct as long as John is still the strongest?)

2. Is this tense combination (both present perfect and past) pcorrect?

She had told/warned him but he didn't listen.
