Questions on prepositions
Hi,
1.If you see a lof of furniture in a room and you are asked to tell someone about the placement of certain items in the room. Are these correct?
The sofa is on (in??) the left side of the room.
2. You see your friend with the same brochure and papers in his hand as that of another friend of yours who happens to come out a meeting. Is this correct?
Were you in (at?) the same meeting with John?
3. Is this correct?
You have to make a decision as to who is going to be our secretary between John, Joe or Jane. -- I think a better sentence would be: You have to make a decision as to to who is going to be our secretary among John, Joe and Jane.

What is your expert stand on the use of the word 'between' with three (or more?) words following it with the word 'or' in it?

This is OK, but 'or' seems illogical to me (unless one or more of them hasn't yet decided if they want to be a candidate.)
I'd say 'and'.
