Questions on a sentence in a book

In a book named "The Deeper Christian Life" by Andrew Murray, published by Whitaker House, on page 48, it is written:

God's Word foreshadows the idea of the Christian's entrance into the new and better life in the history of the people of Israel as they entered into the land of Canaan.

Q1: I dont' understand how the tense "entered" can be correct. I think I saw something like "did as he did something." Is this correct, too?

Q2: In the phrase "the new and better life," is the word "life" countable or uncountable? If we have a sentence like "His discussion on this matter needs to be encouraged," do you think the word "discussion" is countable or uncountable?

Top answer

1-- 'Entered' seems fine to me. They entered the land of Canaan long, long ago. I don't understand your concern, and I don't see the relevance of ' did as he did something'.

  • 1-- 'Entered' seems fine to me.

  • You can also see 'I do as he did', 'we will do as they have done', etc.
  • -- Interesting question; I think it's countable-- the Israelis had an old and worse life, and a new and better life: that's two lives.
