Questions mostly on use of articles

Hi. Please help. I have underlined the parts that concerned me.Thank you in advance.

1. If we replaced the word "passion" with "goals" (in plural) for the sake of asking this question, would it be correct?

Two things matter in the world -- love and passion (goals?).

2, Are any of these correct?

The story we read has two endings -- a happy ending and a sad ending.

3. Is this correct? Let's say this is a definition of a certain word.

It is the part of something such as plant or flower which is raised.

4. Which is correct? Perhaps are they both correct?
