Question whether the sentence is clear

"In OOOOO, lines are drawn on both sides of the playing field and each time the ball crosses over either line, a score is counted for the respective team."

Hi, is the above sentence clear? Specifically I am not sure if the use of "respective" in that manner is correct. Also, I'd like to know if it would still be good if "either" is replaced with "the."

Thanks.

'Respective' is unnecessary. What is 'OO'? Without knowing the nature of what I guess is a game, I suppose it should read: In OO, lines are drawn at/across both ends of the playing field , and each time the ball crosses over a line, a point is scored against its defending team .

Ok, thanks for your help Mister Micawber!

It's a game like field hockey but you wouldn't really recognize it even if I mentioned the name.
