0Hello, I'm a Korean (south Korea) studying for TOEIC test. 02br 02br 00In an online course, the teacher said that a verb of "aid" can not 02br 00take an objective complement of "To+Verb" with an objective 02br 00of a person. I mean, this kind of sentence is wrong in grammar _ he told. 02br 02br 00Actually, the test question was to select an appropriate verb in the blank,02br 02br 00Q. My supervisor will 01u01b00(blank)02b02u00 you to complete all of your work. 02br 02br 00and the correct answer was "advise". (of course I chose right answer 02br 00because I thought that "aid" means to support from a person in lower level 02br 00or to assist which does not match with the subject of "a supervisor".) 02br 02br 00However, the teacher's saying was different as I wrote above. 02br 00I found the verb "aid" in Collins Cobuild English dictionary, and there was 02br 00some cases of use - but I could not find one formed " S + aid + someone 02br 00+ to + Verb". I also found an Korean online English dictionary , and 02br 00there were some example sentences like these ; 02br 02br 00e.g. 1. She aided me to finish the work.02br 00 2. Aid a country to stand on its own feet. 02br 02br 00So, is it OK to use "aid" as an answer for the test question above02br 00(My supervisor will 01u01b00(aid)02b02u00 you to complete all of your work) ?02br 00I've heard that Collins dictionary takes almost of its sentences 02br 00in British English - I'm not sure it is true -, then in American 02br 00English is it correct to use as above? Or, still does "aid" can not 02br 00be used in any case with an objective of person taking an 02br 00objective complement of "to + Verb" ? 02br 02br 00I'm so confused and hopefully anyone of you can help me to 02br 00find the truth about the "aid" - *^^* 02br 02br 00Thanks a lot for your being here 050010id1

1i00Aid to do02i00 and01i00 aid in doing02i00 are both OK in BrE, according to the BBI Dictionary. As an AmE, 01i00aid to do02i00 sounds odd, so perhaps it is a trans-Atlantic difference.0-
