Hi Teachers,

Is this a correct question according to the given answer?

How long did he wait for at the door and what did he do there?

He waited for ten minutes at the door and listened, but he heard nothing and saw nothing.

I think you'd better divide this question into two questions.

Furthermore, the answers should be shorter, and you don't have to repeat words from the question in your answers.

1. How long did he wait at the door?

10 minutes / He waited for 10 minutes.

2. What did he do there?

He was listening (to what?), but heard and saw nothing.

Thank you for your reply and advice.

The thing goes like this. The senteces are taken from a book which contains a story of 36 pages.

The students don't have the story, they just have the CD, so they have to listen to it and complete the answers according to the questions I give them.

For example:

Listen carefully and complete the answers.

Yet, I think you should divide that question into two separate questions, as it may be difficult to listen and complete the answers simultaneously. However, it's up to you. If you believe they can deal with complex questions,
