Hi there,

How would you transform the following sentences into the reported speech ?

He was a pilot, wasn't he ?
He didn't do it, did he ?

The person asked if the man was a pilot / if the man had been a pilot. (both tenses can be used)

He didn't do it, did he ?

I just wanted to know if we do something with the second part of the sentence (after the comma), now I get it, we simply drop it.

He didn't do it, did he ?
The person asked
if the man did it / had done it.

The tag shows attitude. The speaker expects to hear that the man did not do it. To report this attitude, you might say

Tom asked if Bob had done it,

They asked me if he had been a pilot and the assumed that he had
They asked me if he had done it and they asumed that he hadn't.
