Hello,

1. I am right.

I have to add question tag with the above sentence.

a. I am right , aren't I?

b) I am right, am not I?

Which one is correct between (a) and (b)?

2. I am not right.

a) I am right, am I?

b) I am right, are I?

Which is correct between (a) and (b)?

I am not right, am I?

Normally, you'd say "I'm right, aren't I?"

If you want to be emphatic, "I'm right, am I not?"

It is an odd aspect of English that we say "aren't I" instead of "amn't I" (which would be much more logical).

I didn't know that.
All the grammar books I read said "aren't I" was the only correct one.
That's a special case. (no explanation though)

I don't know how that developed.

He is..., isn't he?
You are ..., aren't you?
But NOT: I am... , amn't I? -- It's what you'd expect, though, not "I am..., aren't I"?

But all of those can take the emphatic:

He is the best choice for the position, is he not?
You are the manager and therefore able to fix this, are you not?
I am the mom here, am I not?
