Question on Verb functions!!

Hi!

I have an assignment where I have to explain the function of the word "walking" in the following sentence:

"I am walking to the doctor's office."

My answer is that "Walking" functions as a transitive active verb in this sentence. Am I right?? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
