Question on "Working stiffs"

Dear teachers,

I just heard something from a talk show. When a guest prasied the host for job well done, the host answered like: "I am just working stiffs" (or something similar.)

Could you tell me what does this "working stiffs" mean?

Thanks a lot!

Stone.
