Hi teachers,
Did he do anything before leaving his house?
Would all of them be appropriate natural answers?

b) Yes, he did. He phoned his sister.
c) Yes. He phoned his sister.
d) He phoned his sister.

Thanks in advance.

Your answers are all good. Punctuation can be rather subjective. Try using a style guide, or in the case of dialogue (as I think your examples are) find a writer you like and just try to copy their style consistently.

  • As long as you are consistent (and reasonably close to accepted usage), there will be little confusion.

Hello TS.

I think both b and a are good, with b being more exemplary. I would use neither c nor d.

That said, however, I would personally prefer to write:
Yes, he did; he phoned his sister.

All of them look fine to me.
