Question on physical description

Hi teachers.
This question and aswer is correct:
What did her house look like?
It was very small.
My question is, why we don't use 'like' in the answer?

Thanks in advance.

Top answer

I would presume that "like" goes with "what" and obviously "what" is normally used in questions only. What did the house look like ? What was she like ?

Hi Ivanhr.
Thank you for your reply, but I wrote the wrong question. In fact, I wanted to write this one, 'Why we don't use 'look' in the answer?

I've just edited my previous answer to incorporate this kind of thing.

If you include the verb look followed by a noun phrase in your answer, then you' will normally have to use "like".

She looked just like her mother.
but
She looked scared.
